It was tough, really, and could be a little unfair considering I watched this yesterday avoiding anyone else giving their review/opinion. But movie of 2010 has to go to TRON: Legacy…

It was either this, Inception, or Toy Story 3 in all honesty. With Toy Story however, I have still yet to see it for nobody actually wanted to go see the movie with me (sad faces and aw’s appreciated, or points of laughter) but easily gets into my top five for the sheer fact that…it’s Toy Story, the most loved CGI movie known. You know with that movie even without having to see it yet (I get the feeling I will tomorrow) that it throws in a lot of emotion, a decent way to end a loved title and seeing the insane improvements on the movie since its first release in 1995.

Inception showed in my opinion an original(?) thought-provoked display and was a masterpiece to watch. Christopher Nolan delivers stories in great forms and has never been a disappointment to watch a movie made by him, from The Prestige to of course The Dark Knight, Inception broke a few barriers visually to even Christopher Nolan’s surprise. Along with that was a great storyline to follow, which would get people thinking about the possibility of just dreams and how they function really…or you know, just something to say “IT’S AMAZING!” to. Featuring a cast full of fan favourites (including Epic Network’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy) It was as if Christopher Nolan knew how to please the fans in giving them what they want, acting class wise, without even starting. Also this movie did NOT feature the 3D option, and rightfully so for it did not seem to need it. It was a carefully placed project kept in typical ‘hush-hush’ fashion but for all the right reasons and all worth the wait.

HOWEVER…TRON: Legacy is the movie of the year, and I stand by that choice even after only watching it yesterday, at the IMAX, with some goofy 3D glasses on. That alone was just worth the watch. I liked that this was more a sequel and not a reboot, despite that this movie could stand on its own two feet without realizing there was a first TRON movie to begin with there’s no denying the appreciation you get when you watch the first, which at it’s time of release it was amazing visually then, to then watch Legacy and see just how far technology has gotten us all at. But I honestly just fell in love with the movie and felt even blinking I would miss something happen.
A few things I did read mainly were the negative part of the movie. People had a problem either with the fact that only Daft Punk soundtrack/score of the movie was the only thing that carried the movie, or that Daft Punk’s soundtrack/score of the movie was in fact lame, and was apparently Inception’s score with a few extra techno beats. With that, those people are lame. Everything about the movie from visuals to soundtrack, choice of actors (of course Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner reprising their role respectively), costumes to the storyline itself was spot on. Give Daft Punk an Orchestral team to work with and they proved what they can do, it more just helped the scenes in the movie turn out to be that more epic to view than “carry” a movie. If people cannot appreciate the amount of work that honestly went into that movie then they really need to shut themselves in the dark, sit in their basement and carry on whacking off to the latest You-Tuber ranting on about the lamest points of a movie.

In a sense, watching this movie was like the feeling I had watching Inception which is why its a really close decision for me. Both of these movies you can tell took huge amounts of effort into building every little detail noticeable to the viewers and both deserve the crown. What made TRON that little bit more special I suppose was that not only of its sci-fi wonder and that I’m totally in love with Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett, but it seemed more relaxed to watch. I dunno if anybody notices how quick the scene changes quite a fair amount in Inception, it was the same case with The Dark Knight. Whilst Inception was also an easy movie to follow through and have fun talk with friends and such, the ending got many people making so many theories that it got to a point of irritation, rather than just a simple “yes or no” answer. Also, the personalities given to the characters in TRON just made it a more excellent experience. Michael Sheen as Zuse was just honestly top class and provided possibly my favourite scene of the movie, Clu as once a perfect creator now defect and determined to “derezz” his mentor, and the battles along with the bikes…the list could go on and on about every aspect of the movie.
