No that’s not a typo, that’s the name of the song for real.. This song by HiLL WiLL of the crew PHRED DIAMOND was sent to my e-mail and I decided to take a listen. I was definitely feeling the message, and I even concur with the description that came attached to the e-mail which read..

“The direction of my generation is a deadly crash course with no
seatbelts. From the skinny jean lean sippers to the world star hip hop
twerks you gotta feel this. All 90’s babies chill out for second and
take a breath”

The song features some nice production from OneHunnid, I really like how the beat and the vocals from HiLL WiLL flow together so naturally. The song, though it’s too short for my liking feels real legit and It has me wanting to hear more from both HiLL WiLL and his crew PHRED DIAMOND. Check out the song and official video below and let us know what you think of it. If you are interested in finding out more about HiLL WiLL and PHRED DIAMOND there are also numerous links as well as a bio to check out below. Remember, always support independent artists – it’s important for the future of Hip Hop.

The hip-hop quintet known as PHRED DIAMOND (pronounced FRED DIAMOND)
is composed of 5 artists with 5 completely different views,
personalities and philosophy’s on life, hoping to change the world one
verse at a time. “PHRED” is an acronym for
“people-hardly-remember-everyone-dead”. Using the fuel of their lost
love ones as inspiration for every song, you can feel the emotion
poured into every verse, chorus, and hard thumping beat this group
produces. Hailing from the Maryland (DMV) area, the group consists of
Knox Diamond, Hill Will, Mani, Profit Tusane and Sandman. Their first
clutch of the microphone was 9 years ago when they were asked to rap
for the very first time amongst local MC’s. June 4, 2010 the group
released their first mix tape entitled “NOWALATERS”. The title
reflects the group’s confidence and insinuates that listeners will
either become instant fans now or will eventually succumb to the
group’s musical genius. PHRED DIAMOND represents the DMV area
(DC/MD/VA) which rarely receives recognition in the music industry,
especially in the rap/hip-hop genre. “We make songs about our
adventures and discoveries in our area. We want to tell the world
about our reality as 5 average brothers with a gift for making great
music. If you can connect, then come and rock with us.” When asked to
describe their music the group replied, “Our music is designed to put
you in a caddy on 24′s and take you on a tour of the DMV”. The
development of this group’s unique style is the result of a lifetime
of great musical influence.

The styles of Hip Hop stretches near beyond limits unexpectedly. A personal favourite style is the conscious side of rap – using the mind to express the movement of the world and personal stories. So when New York based rapper Will Vill dropped in on our ‘Have You Heard’ vault with his track ‘Get Fresh’, it was worthy for us to make it known…

‘Get Fresh,’ produced by Chaze of Grim Team Inc., has already been getting airwaves to which the music video has been featured on MTV. Will Vill to many can also be noticed for perhaps opening acts for artists such as Mos Def, The Roots and Dead Prez. Keeping a seemingly ‘old school’ vibe to his music, Will Vill describes this song as a means to inspire people to become a better version of themselves. In his own words: “As soon as I heard the beat, it gave me a feeling of starting anew and opening a new chapter in my life. “Get Fresh” is a deep song. It’s about leaving all the negative stuff behind you. It’s about having a new state of mind.”

Which makes perfect sense, and clear to hear in this track. Will Vill is a true artist, keeping to the roots of Hip Hop and making a noise which is turning heads. There would be no surprise if he is considered as one of the artists to help keep the soul of Hip Hop alive and running each year, whether that is on the big stage or many shows in the making. This is one of many tracks by Will Vill himself, so we definitely expect to hear more from the artist in the near future.

In the meantime, checkout “Get Fresh” and let us know your thoughts:

Personal thought: 2011 for me was not a great year for music, there were a few standouts (three to be precise), but nothing more, constantly we kept hearing artists send a message of how they are G.O.A.T’s, conquering Earth itself, whilst hiding away behind false statements and claim money as their proof of “throne-worthy”. Whilst artists on the mainstream level fought over a nursery chair, it was in fact music from our impressive “Have You Heard” vault that kept the year going. 2012 hopefully will give artists in the underground a lot more recognition of where great music with a clear message should be heard, such as Woodbridge, Virginia’s “PHZ-Sicks”…

Name pronounced as “Physics,” the artist has a lot of experience and knowledge of what it takes to step up a level. Previously opening acts for artists such a J. Cole and Wale, you can consider PHZ-Sicks already has a bit of buzz going for him already, and his latest music video to start 2012 can prove his talents.

“Success/Failure” is a track which appears on PHZ-Sicks mixtape “The Law Of PHZ-Sicks” and features Detroit, Michigan artist Young Scolla. With a easy-flowing original beat and a message of positivity, the music video views a creative look on the idea of success and failure, featuring a split-screen view which, on one side shows process being successful positive manner, and the other side showing the less confident failure side of things. The video ends with the screens coming together, showing a performance from the artist and everyone generally having a good time. As you do.

In general, “Success/Failure” is a great listen. It’s a seemingly uplifting track leaving behind a simple message via the examples of the music video. Overall we at Epic Network will be looking forward to hearing more of PHZ-Sicks this year. Checkout the video below and let us know what you think:

When receiving new music on the Epic Network it’s always a nice feeling to hear something fresh in a genre [...]

When receiving new music on the Epic Network it’s always a nice feeling to hear something fresh in a genre that is (in my opinion) dying out and forgotten. Latest artist to check in our “Have You Heard” vault comes Audiomuzic, a Dominican Republic born rapper raised around the New York area and, like every aspiring artist we have introduced, is making noise for himself to be heard, this time however with a more calm, laid back approach…

Audio’s style is one artist that I can appreciate, he seemingly brings a fusion of the music’s art and his own personality to a reality that slowly dies out from artists living their same old trend (which then becomes contradicted by their own words). Starting off as a ghost writer for other MC’s, eventually Audiomuzic had to make himself known using the money earned to rent studio times and record material. From rapping around street corners and local parks to becoming friends with DJ’s that got him radio play (from the likes of Sirrius/XM radio, shade 45 and hip hop nation), it seems Audiomuzic himself doesn’t really have any problem making it possible to go far.

The track “Feeling Good” examples his mellow approach to Hip Hop along with the lyrics from the get go talking of exactly who he is. A simple track which is always the best approach in my opinion, this is definitely a likeable one. A little humour, a show of appreciation to artists inspiring, a beat to bop your head to, and words overall that make a decent introduction somewhat. I would love to hear more of this style be played and heard, for it helps show the roots/origins of hip hop whilst also keeping it alive and in my personal opinion, the sound which Audiomuzik provides on this track is true “freshness” which people in the mainstream are so damn intriguingly interested in “searching” for.

The track can be heard below, let us know what you think:

For some rappers, it is easy nowadays to not make a challenge in the music business and simply go down [...]

For some rappers, it is easy nowadays to not make a challenge in the music business and simply go down the route of obvious turnouts. Still being signed to major labels, you can sense despite how many artists speak on saying they are “experimenting”, the truth is they go about their trend wrongly. Artists end up going off track and not realizing that the genre they once were die hard dreaming for is unfortunately changing in the hands of their own, completely forgotten. You do however have some artists who still seem to remember where they started, and in order to progress yourself that “experimentation” must come from still keeping the element alive and fresh, making sure also that people remember what they’re also loving and dreaming themselves. Keep traditional Hip Hop alive, but add your own edge to it…

That said, rapper SAV (Sex And Violence) brings that originality of his style and adds a fresh sound surprisingly with enough quality to break into the mainstream does he wish to. Listening to a few of his tracks, there is that sound in him where even though it may feel cliche to others, for him and many others its keeping faith to how music should represent IF the genre of rap/hip hop have to be tampered with here and there. Many in the independent scene are already keeping this feeling alive, as we have had great opportunities to listen to some unheard voices. For SAV, real name Scott Gianotti, it is no different.

The one song in our inbox and officially joining our “Have You Heard” vault is the track titled “Shinnin”, which features a beautifully voiced Tahaya Lewis on the hook and is a more calm, piano based mood of a song, close enough to assume that this could be poetry in motion. It is a song admittedly that can be given the raised eyebrow (if like me, you can do such talent) in listening to the track the first time, but this is definitely one of those tracks where the audience really should sit down and lend both their ears to truly listen what is spoken, for this track can surprise many, despite his acronym of a name making you think otherwise. The track speaks on bringing self confidence and bringing determination to yourself, believing yourself to a point the obstacles seemingly in your path are pushovers. Produced by Cafe Society for me the beat plus the words flow together near enough perfectly making this track a surprisingly stunning symbol of self-perseverance.

Checkout the music video below and grab the track to see for yourself and let us know your thoughts on SAV:

Another artist to make his welcome in our ‘Have You Heard Vault’, this time from a guy who in fact “tweeted” me his tunes, to which being the dedicated fool I am thought to give it a listen and see what the artist going by the name of “Just Incredible” (J-Kred by short) is really all about. To describe in short: The emcee from Harlem is fairly living up to his name, keeping the Hip Hop elements still intact and having a flow that is reminiscent to the modern day artist but knowing through his words and topics, speaking with truth like an old school rapper…

“Dark Matter”, the title of J-Kred’s mixtape, have tracks which have you bopping your head such as “Remember Yesterday” and “Noise”, to other tracks such as “Holding Back” and “Money N Fame”, which are a little more slowed down yet still you hear the emcee speaking his thoughts in Hip Hop manner whatever the subject. It is definitely a decent mixtape, you can tell by the quality that J-Kred has given his all to make it sound just as decent as a majority of albums we are having to buy and listen to.

Personal opinion, I can hear a little similarities between Just Incredible and Wale, or at least what Wale could still be like if he stops talking about weed 24/7 now. What I mean by this comparison is that when Wale was introduced into the scene he was considered as one to look out for regards to being a future of Hip Hop, whilst he still spits really well, his choice of topics have become bland and basic. In my opinion if Just Incredible carries on being himself, maybe someday the world can wake up to great music and consider this artist as one to keep an eye out for.

That is my opinion, now let me hear yours. Let us know your thoughts whilst checking out “Dark Matter” for yourself below:

The latest artist to join our ‘Have You Heard’ vault is a man hailing from Chicago, goes by the name of ‘Aerias’, the latest of Emcees who is also a major talent in multiple musical techniques. With a straight up in-your-face attitude and willing to make dares a reality, Aerias is one artist who is making himself known the loud way…

His single, “Bootleg Broads”, is an example of his persona. It picks on a certain subject which a majority can DEFINITELY relate to regards to women and their motives of such, not to say that all women (in fact to even say JUST WOMEN) act this way, but at times you will always hear the one that ‘talks the talk, but can’t walk the walk’. Simply put, “Bootleg Broads” is an ode to not being real when you have every chance to be and an ego check to the ladies who hate on other ladies for being classy, pretty or just plain smart.

In his own words, Aerias says of the song: “In a era where “Keeping it real” is at an all time high, Bootleg Broads is a chin check to the women who forgot what time it is. To the “independent” women who depend on everyone, to the trash talkers & gossip queens that are too bored with themselves to keep their drama to themselves, and to the liars who lie to everyone…including themselves….this song was made to shut them up.”

This track has a decent basic track and the song gradually grows on you upon listening. It can be seen as kind of a comedy track in a sense that the emcee speaks a lot of reality, therefore finding it funny just how much we guys unfortunately have to deal with some girls at times. Nonetheless this song is a nice track for a way Aerias is making some noise in the independent scene. The rhymes flow nicely suiting his attitude and we at Epic network will be interested to see what else is in store from Aerias himself.

The latest artist to be involved in our “Have You Heard” vault comes Tunde Olaniran, an R&B singer based in Michigan who brings his own terms and conditions towards the genre. Considering we are all about Hip Hop, it doesn’t hurt at times to take a peak at what is outside the ever changing genre and look towards some unique sounds, in which Tunde himself brings to the table…

His first track “Cobra” isn’t your typical Mario nor Ne Yo style of R&B, though more of that Kelis approach – urban, different and quite catchy in beat which it’s quite old-school vibe brings you in like a slight addiction slowly to hear then the voice afterwards. Some could say it is a breathe of fresh air to what R&B typically brings, with his eccentric sound and approach. Watching the music video of “Cobra” it is quite a humorous look, as it gives off that VHS days/your very first video recording camera back in the 80′s making your art-house style “portrait”.

Personal opinion, Tunde Olaniran is decent. It still feels like he has a long way to go but it is a challenge he seems willing to take. I like the different approach he’s going with his voice and style, and with the way music is going nowadays he can be looked at as something marketable. That is, if he is wanting to take that approach.

My opinion, but let us know yours. Checkout the video below:

A new group to look out for. In our latest of “Have You Heard” segments we bring you ‘The Nillaz’, a group furthering the limits of Hip Hop’s use by blending in a certain element of funk/crunk into their rhymes plus flow. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, this is another group which is worth giving a listen.

Each member brings their own talent to the scene, with Java (Vocals) , Ill-on (Vocals) , Ethos (Guitar), Kevvy Kev (Drums), Chris Strange (Key Boards), and Bass Mon (Bass) all creating a sound that can shake the independent scene. It is definitely a unique sound when a rock band brings a Hip Hop sensation to the role, the hybrid mixture tends to at times never work out in a lot of cases, though The Nillaz have managed to make it possible – a certain sound which is somewhat pleasing to the ears to people that like a bit of electric guitar to bop to whilst maybe also being intertwined with the lyrics and meaning of the song as a whole.

“It Is What It Is” brings a great sound, (to me) the certain eastern melody played through the track is what makes this work, followed by the vocals interesting sound, which (again, for me) gives off perhaps a little ‘Beastie Boys’-inspired technique. Never a bad thing if agreed.

Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think:

A new artist from the independent scene dropped in my inbox (three times in fact) going by the name of Ralphy Boy, who has just released his debut EP “Hear Me, Feel Me”. Straight from Brooklyn, this artist straight up has qualities as well to challenge those in the mainstream we hear today…

We at Epic Network not only love the promotion of unheard artists, but also love the different sounds each one we receive provide to the music industry and Hip Hop genre itself. Ralphy Boy can be compared to a numerous few artists back in the days, but the choice of tracks, flow, as well as rhymes brings a nice change and a feeling which you have not heard in these times regards to the nowadays cliche of defamation. Born in a family of art per say (father being a painter as well as he having picked up skills in crafting and photography) you can understand the emotion within his music and get to grips with his words and storytelling. From empowerment (“Kings Scribe Freestyle”) to ignorance, love (“I Bet (He Never)”) plus heartbreak (“The Heartbreak”), this EP provides an honest lifestyle.

Described in his own words: “This album is the story of a young man learning about himself with each life experience while dealing with conflicts. It’s about reaching climactic highs, dramatic lows and taking unexpected turns, “Hear Me, Feel Me” is nothing short of a thrill ride!”

Provided by the artist himself is a free download of the 12-track EP, so you cannot complain there. Check him out as well as the music video to his first track off the list “Get It!”, which you can view below:

Every week or so, we at Epic Network are given an opportunity to really show the unsigned hype that is around in the music business. Independent artists making new sounds and leaps in the music world which easily best a majority of what we listen to in the mainstream field. We give the opportunity, especially in Hip Hop, for music to truly be heard. That said we are quite furthermore impressed with the latest music that dropped in our inbox, a young talented lady by the name of R.E.A.L (aka R.E.A.L Live Ent), and her debut single “Top Of The World” which is straight up fantastic…

R.E.A.L, who’s name/acronym I have yet to decipher, you could say was deemed to play a role in music from early and obvious signs. Daughter to DJ Easy Mike and niece of Grandmaster Flash, Hip Hop culture seemed born into her. She wrote her first song at the age of 8 to now making a track this year which makes a big statement of what is expected from the talent born in the Bronx.

“Top Of The World” has been playing on loop on my playlist, one of those cliche songs which shines an introduction to just who she is, but at the same time R.E.A.L is bringing a major uplifting song for those that instill belief. She has her own sound, which is a good thing to stand out the way she is, though this does remind me of a certain Joy Denalane song – the upbeat, powerful rhythm accompanied by a smooth flow of personal words making a brilliant track ready in time especially for the summer.

Catchy hook, brilliant talent already beaming, great song accompanied to a professionally worked on music video – what more could you ask for in an artist? We can only hope R.E.A.L will live up to her name (keeping it real). Be sure to catch her performing in numerous areas in the US as she begins her promo tour, we at the Epic Network show love from the UK.

Dubbed as “The Ambassadors Of Urban Alternative”, sounds from New York by a group called “Stereo Crowd” have dropped a track in my inbox to help get them heard, and if you like your Hip Hop fused with a bit of edgy rock on the side this is one group you wanna checkout for sure.

They are said to be a blend of Black Eyed Peas style hip-hop combined with the amped-up flavor of The Black Keys, sprinkling a bit of soul and R&B to bring a creative blend of passion plus diversity. Whatever the comparisons they have a sound indeed which is interesting plus what I feel would make a certain hit in the mainstream world should they step into that path, their video however of the track “I Got It” sort of states the idea of how much an independent artist normally go through in making an impression towards the music business, letting it be known that Stereo Crowd themselves have indeed what it takes to leave a lasting impression.

They do have an upbeat raw energy sound to them, with each member in the band providing a talent of their own. This is a group in which you would wanna stick around and bop your head more onto, so keep an eye out for them, trust me: ‘they got it’.

Enjoy their sounds and visuals below:

This is one artist in the Hip Hop world which, at such a young age of nineteen years, may have to already keep an eye out for whilst he makes a statement for himself. The young ‘Kj Hamilton’, and his camp ‘Team Aspiring MC’ have been passing around his debut EP “Aspiring MC, Vol. 1″ around numerous websites. Just like what a majority of different sites can agree on, we at Epic Network think that Kj brings a certain element to his stories and choice of flow which could potentially see him out to be a big star, long as he takes the right steps in life…

Born in Georgia where he was also raised, Hamilton had moved his southern rapping-self up to the big apple in New York to continue his dream and hold nothing back when it comes to speaking from his heart and personal life experiences. The track “Love Leaves”, which was the main subject of tune in talk, has an instrumental produced by JUDAH originally heard from the “Amber Rose Instrumental” mixtape. Along with additional editing and programming by Kj himself, this track brings along a calm, Hip Hop classic-like melody accompanied by lyrics explaining a catalog of types of girls in existent, making this a catchy track as well as one that sticks to the mind.

However the main track which would circle around the Hip Hop heads is “Fathers Day”, a heart-felt track dedicated to his absent father in the style of writing a letter over the instrumental “Stan” by Eminem. Powerful and fairly emotional, you can always count on the personal tracks to guide you through to making yourself a stronger person in the world, especially when you challenge yourself in the music business.

Overall, “Aspiring MC, Vol. 1″ gives a hint of Kanye inspiration in his tone and a vision blended with an old plus new flow, adding into it Kj’s own vision which gives a burst of unique sounds we can’t really compare out anywhere to whatever artist is around. Personally I feel he is someone worth considering giving a listen, he still has a lot of time to definitely evolve into something that excels even himself further, though at the moment Kj Hamilton is doing good to write his name down in the list of being an unsigned hype.

So checkout his eight-track EP below, let us know your thoughts on Kj Hamilton and “Aspiring MC, Vol. 1″:
