#NewMusic Skepta – Punch His Face

We’re not sure how serious we’re meant to take this song, but we like Skepta, hence the post. It’s clear the techno/dance fad is ruling the UK airwaves right now, and everything is being geared towards the club goer. I’m sure this song sounds excellent in the club, but I hope we hear some more well rounded music from Skepta and the Boy Betta Know camp in 2012.

UK Hip Hop guru Sway returns with this new single entitled Still Speeding, the first thing I thought of was his song “Up Your Speed” from his first album, and then he actually mentioned it in the song. Throughout the song he shows why he shouldn’t be taken for a joke, killing the beat with his lethal flow. Look out for a more official video in the future, as well as a Still Speedin remix with Kano.

A friend of mine passed this on to me and then I took a listen, when I heard the hook my first impression was ‘Ok it’s a UK A-milli’ which isn’t a bad thing. Then I heard RawDeal spit and I was impressed at his lyrical ability, and then I was sold. From here on I will be looking out for more from RawDeal and you should to!

It has come to my attention that I haven’t really gotten to notice a lot of UK Hip Hop artists around. Grime – yes, Hip Hop – not so much…so thanks to a certain friend (Who will read this and take credit) she let me know about Tinie Tempah’s new track “Written In The Stars”.

Weirdly enough I started giving him a listen few days before being asked an opinion, as a part-time lyricist also along with the likes of Swiff/G-Swaby, we have to be aware of whats out there and the different styles each emcee brings to the table. At first thought of hearing upon “Pass Out” I said: “He’s alright, voice is a bit irritating but deal-able, lyrics are okay, but to be honest I prefer his instrumentals than I would his words.” Cause lets face it, the dude has decent beats to rhyme over.

His latest track however, is something interesting in both rhyme and beat, another kind of track with a catchy chorus to which eventually the whole track will grow onto you. The video replicates fairly related scenes in a persons everyday life – Using music to get away from difficult times, beating doubts and using it to eventually get to where he’s at now: singing with Jesus on the piano.

Today on Twitter something interesting happened. Diddy announced that he wished to do a UK Grime remix of his song “Hello Good Morning”, he then asked his UK fans to suggest who he should do this with. UK fans replied with dozens of suggestions, however Skepta was the most recommended artist by the fans. @IamDiddy and @Skepta then traded info and spoke.

So it seems that sometime soon we could very well seeing a US/UK Collaboration, which in my opinion will be a very good look. I for one am definitely happy to see Skepta be the one to get recommended, as I think he is one of the best Grime artists out period.

Lets see what happens.

Skepta Performs At 50 Cent Before I Self Destruct Tour

Over a week ago me and my good friend and business partner Ruthlesskid attended the 50 Cent Before I Self Destruct tour in Wembley London. Skepta was one of the opening acts. We managed to get some footage, I recorded the whole Skepta set. I managed to get some footage of 50 but the security told me to turn off my camera so I couldn’t get too much. I will post the 50 footage soon, so look out for that.

Here is the full 10 minute Skepta set, in which he performed some of his most popular records. He even brung out some of the Boy Betta Know camp to perform Too Many Man. Also check out my interview with Skepta here.
