#Freestyle: Common – Shot Caller

Whether you agree or not, Common is considered a legend and one of the realest emcee’s around. Still keeping a genre alive that seems to be dying, Chicago’s very own laid down some bars in a recent appearance on the Cosmic Kev’s show, speaking over the French Montana single.

This is probably the shortest article I have done yet, but it is simply a freestyle, it is Common, so there is not much more needed to be said. Checkout the track below and let us know your thoughts – BlackBerry needed? Or not really?

Upon the upcoming release of “Cole World: The Sideline Story”, J. Cole is all around radio stations dropping thoughts, views, promos and freestyles, such as this one, where on Power 99 the emcee did his thing showing what exactly he’s capable of. Rapping over Meek Mills “Ima Boss” and then over Kanye West and “mentor” Jay-Z’s “Otis.

All that can be said about this is the DJ is nuts, just screaming all over nearly as loud as the Kanye West pretend scream from Otis. But overall a decent freestyle even if the first “Ima Boss” does sound pretty familiar. We at Epic Network have been following J. Cole’s rise in the music world, we only hope now that he lives up to his words and delivers.

Listen: DMX & Busta Rhymes – Otis Freestyle

24 Hours of hype, and DMX plus Busta Rhymes have now released their “Otis” Freestyle which for me, it’s literally just all noise. Not bad noise to say the least (I was able to understand and find the track alright), but when you have DMX barking and growling through the track, Busta Rhymes louder than the track itself, it does NOT HELP that Funkmaster Flex inputs his soundbites over the track making it more unclear on what on Earth is actually going on!

With that said however, these are two “Old Dogs Of Hip Hop” in my opinion, and there is much respect to them both. You may however have a better reaction to the track than I do itself, or if not you can always take a listen to the original or take a listen to UK’s Tinie Tempah’s attempt.

And so the freestyles over “Otis” begins, starting with UK’s own Tinie Tempah spitting his words over the Jay-Z & Kanye West’s original track. It was only a matter of time till we heard rappers make their attempt, personally in this case Tinie Tempah does his thing.

As stated back when hearing Otis for the first time it’s the beat that truly carries this song, where the artists really have to go in regards to what they have to say if they truly want to be noticed. Tinie Tempah carries his words nicely through here, which honestly I would like to see that this freestyle helps further elevate on the UK talent being able to stand next to the current list of Hip Hop artists people spend their money on making rich.

Check it out for yourself and maybe you’ll see what I mean. Whilst Tinie Tempah fell into my theory of hearing fresh artists giving a go on Otis, expect to hear two old dogs of Hip Hop, Busta Rhymes & DMX, prepare to give their freestyle anytime soon. Wale has been doing pretty decent for himself. Seemingly now in a comfort zone with Maybach Music Group and releasing tracks that attract the fans, the artist from Washington DC returns this time with a freestyle over a beat used for Drake’s single, which gets you thinking why waste beats over an artist like Drake when you have an artist like Wale?

Personal opinion Wale is still decent, though I do believe he’s gone a bit dry in recent times. However, he is one of the rappers which has a chance to make a name for himself and depending what route he takes he can do that. This freestyle shows his abilities lyrically but I think he can do better, including choices of beats as well.

Tech N9ne stopped by at Tony Touch’s domain to promote his new album 6′s & 7′s which drops June 7th. Before leaving Tech dropped this nice little freestyle. Tech N9ne definitely deserves respect as he has been underground for years but maintains a fan base of abundance. Let us know what u think of Tech. Not to be mistaken by the Tech 9 who rap battles.
