Released: July 19, 1995

Temperature’s Rising is the third and final single from Mobb Deep‘s album, The Infamous, featuring Crystal Johnson. Similar to Nas’ “One Love”, Mobb Deep’s song is in the form of a letter to a recently incarcerated friend, who went by the name Killa Black, he was also the older brother of Havoc. In the song, the narrator reveals that he is covering up evidence of his imprisoned friends’ criminal actions, and speaks of his paranoia, fearing that the police are closing in on him.

It contains a sample of “Where There is Love” by Patrice Rushen. There is also an original version, which is leaked on the internet, went unreleased due to sample clearance issues. That version contains samples of “UFO” by ESG & “Body Heat” by Quincy Jones.

A few years after the song was released, Killa Black comitted suicide while being imprisoned. In 2006 the song was included on the greatest hits album Life of the Infamous: The Best of Mobb Deep.

There is also a remix to the single has sounds similar to the album version with mostly clean lyrics.

It’s been a while since I did a 90 Degrees. But I heard this track again this week and fell in love again. Jay-Z’s Dead President’s is a classic cut from his debut album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ which dropped 1996. There is actually two versions of this, the first one was released to promote his debut, but on the actual album the song was named Dead Presidents 2, which featured new lyrics. This was also the song where he quoted Nas, and then during their beef Jay-Z spoke the unforgettable line “So what I sampled your voice, you was using it wrong/ You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song/”.

So lets go back to 1996 and reminisce.

When people think of dead hip hop legends the same two come to mind, Biggie and Pac. But nobody ever mentions Big L, and I admit I’m salty about it. Not only was this guy one of the most talented MC’s in the 90′s, but he was damn near a pioneer of punchline rap. From rapping with Children of the Corn; which was his group with childhood friends Mase and Cam’ron, to almost being signed to Roc-a-fella records in 1999, Big L killed a lot of tracks in his career. Unfortunately he was gunned down and killed in Harlem in 1999, and Hip Hop suffered greatly. Check out Put It On below, which was one of his singles from “Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous” in 1995.

Wassup reader! I am back with another 90 Degree’s segment, to remind you of some of the hottest Hip Hop from the 90′s. Let’s face it, music lasts forever. So no matter how old a track is now, you can still knock your head to it. These were the sounds I grew up to as a youth, so I love to showcase them even now like they were new tracks.

Love them or hate them, Mobb Deep a legends in hip hop. They always put out those raw vibes, and there isn’t one Mobb Deep album without bangers on it.

For those that don’t know by now, 90 Degrees is where I remind you all (especially you young buck’s who weren’t alive) of all the hottest joints from the 90′s. The 90′s was the best decade in hip hop, and looking back at the 00′s Hip Hop fell off a lot. 2010 is around the corner, so I urge all MC’s to step their game up, so we can have more classic material like what I am about to show you.

This joint comes from DMX, it was his debut single back in 98. Get At Me Dog had the streets buzzing, and let everybody know DMX was here. DMX had a great struggle in his early life, so it was good to see him make it after so long.

Here’s a new segment I am introducing, where I post classic songs/video’s from the 90′s. We are almost at the end of another decade, however I don’t feel like there were as many classics from the 00′s as there were in the 90′s. So I’m going to refresh your memory every so often to let you know what was hot back then, heck some of you probable were too young or were not even born in the 90′s.

This first one is Wyclef – Gone Till November Remix, this was a classic joint back in 1997. The song also featured Destiny’s Child, in the early stages of their careers, and also Canibus. Too bad I couldn’t find the official music video, but check the track below.
