Well, its been a long time choosing, but director Marc Webb eventually from a shortlist of five actors, Andrew Garfield comes out on top as our rebooted web-slinging superhero.
Known for his role in The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, or even ‘pig boy’ in Doctor Who, Garfield beat the likes of Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin and Aaron Johnson for the part. Its in a sense a win for us Brits, showing the young talent that’s lurking about. Though for those complaining about age regards to Jamie Bell (my pick), Andrew Garfield is 26 this year…
During a special reveal at an event in Mexico, Marc Webb in a relieved state spoke: “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents.
“He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
The casting news was rumoured that Josh Hutcherson (Zathura, Journey To Center Of The Earth) was offered the role to be Peter Parker, but possible he turned the chance down. Chance to be Spider-Man, you really turned it down?
Producer Avi Arad said: “I’m incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield, in the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”
Whilst Andrew Garfield suits up for Spider-Man, we’ll get to critique officially his acting skills in upcoming Facebook based movie “The Social Network” and also “Never Let Me go”. The Spider-Man reboot is set for 3rd July 2012 and is set to be 3D also.
