August 25th saw past the ninth anniversary of R&B class Aaliyah’s death, in which to this day is still not a forgotten memory that she has left the world and is making music in a better place.
The singer was killed in a plane crash after she was done filming the video for hit single “Rock The Boat” in 2001. With the power of Twitter, artists were brought together to remember and pay their respects to an unforgettable artist.
“Unknown fact: Aaliyah + I recorded a track in Trinidad that was never released- I wish I could find those tapes now,” Diddy tweeted. “Damn. RIP AALIYAH.”
As Aaliyah was a protege to producer genius Timbaland, Keri Hilson faces a same situation in which she herself can become a bigger female star in the R&B world. She wrote through her Twitter: “#ripAaliyah I feel like you were a sister I’ve nvr had the pleasure of meeting. No one will ever replace your shine, nor should one try.”
“Today is the day that the R&B Angel Aaliyah passed on,” Ne-Yo wrote. “RT if you loved her the way I did!!WE MISS YOU BABYGIRL!!!!”
Current female stars Nicki Minaj and Janelle Monae also paid their tribute, with the latter-named showing just how much inspiration the late star was exactly to her.
“(you) Always kept me & my friends in [Kansas City] out of trouble. Too busy in the mirror doing her ‘swoop’ bang & dance moves.:)” Tweets Janelle Monae.
To this day I would have to say still that Aaliyah can never be forgotten, she was always more than just an R&B singer, talents came to her naturally. With her acting roles such as “Romeo Must Die” and the Oscar-tipped role in “Queen Of The Damned” she knew how to bring beauty and class all in one true human. Here at the Epic Network we too pay our respects to Aaliyah knowing if she was still here, many of the female artist we see today would still be in awe of her. A real inspiration that is missed nowadays.
The true Queen of R&B, in my mind there could never be another. R.I.P.
