Remember the time Joaquin Phoenix ‘retired’ from acting in 2008? In hopes of becoming a Hip Hop artist? During that time his transaction was being chased around by brother in-law Casey Affleck with a camera, and from what was filmed, is now turned into a movie called “I’m Still Here”.

So…from seeing the first photos and having Casey Affleck follow him around we already knew this was going to be some sort of bizarre documentary, but is the actual transaction real or a hoax? Joaquin doing some comedy? Or was this a genuine attempt? Or maybe both?

The actual description follows: The directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actor Casey Affleck, “I’m Still Here” is a striking portrayal of a tumultuous year in the life of internationally acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix. With remarkable access, “I’m Still Here” follows the Oscar-nominee as he announces his retirement from a successful film career in the fall of 2008 and sets off to reinvent himself as a hip hop musician. Sometimes funny, sometimes shocking, and always riveting, the film is a portrait of an artist at a crossroads. Defying expectations, it deftly explores notions of courage and creative reinvention, as well as the ramifications of a life spent in the public eye.

Check it out:

It was all kinda…dumb in a sense, I’m a little confused as to if this is all a general joke, why? What proof is he trying to make now? Did/does anyone actually buy into his persona change? Joaquin Phoenix playing as himself NOT AS Joaquin Phoenix? Wha?

Guess we won’t know until we see the actual movie itself, which is set to release 10th September this year. Let us know what you think.
