Opponents of the proposed construction of a mosque near Ground Zero are set to present their case to the New York City populace via mass transportation. Earlier this week the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) decided to allow controversial advertisements arguing against the mosque to appear on the side of New York City buses.

“While the MTA does not endorse the views expressed in this or other ads that appear on the transit system, the advertisement purchased by a group opposing a planned mosque near the World Trade Center was accepted today after its review under MTA’s advertising guidelines and governing legal standards,” the MTA said in a statement.

The controversial ad, which depicts images of 9/11 was designed and paid for by a group that strongly opposes what’s being called the “Ground Zero Mosque.” After the MTA initially rejected the ad, the anti-mosque group took their cause to court.

David Yerushalmi, an attorney for the anti-mosque group told PIX News “the government has no basis to tell you or me or my client that they don’t like the viewpoint.”

The proposed mosque has been a sore spot for those who believe it’s disrespectful to the Americans that died in the attacks of 9/11.

Pamela Geller, Executive Director of the Freedom Defense Initiative asked, “what’s more insulting and offensive — that image of truth, or a 15 story mega-mosque looking down on the sacred ground of Ground Zero?”

While NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg is in support of mosque, specifically in support of religious freedom, other nationally recognized politicians like Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich have spoken out against it.

New Yorkers can expect to see the ads around the city as early as next week.

This is kind of ridiculous. The Mosque being built near Ground Zero should imply the idea into idiots heads that not every Muslim person is a terrorist – something which one sided idiots can’t get round their head. Its inviting people to understand more about the religion and open up to an accepting community. Now it is blatant extremists and morons are gonna smash this place when it is just built. How much more unfair can people get? Its better to to look the future, just accept that it is going to happen and let it go. In no way placing a Mosque next to Ground Zero an insult – different teachings brought up different people, that needs to be understood.

So much for being dubbed “Land of the free” really…
