Last year it was announced that D.J. Caruso, who has made the likes of Eagle Eye, Disturbia and his upcoming I Am Number Four, was set to direct a sci-fi horror based from the EA hit game and French comics ‘Dead Space’.

“Dead Space” is set in the 26th century in deep space, where an engineer responds to a distress signal from a mining ship only to find the vessel infested with monstrous creatures called Necromorphs. The creatures are human corpses, reanimated by an alien virus. Nice, really.

Speaking to MTV, Caruso says: “The cool thing about ‘Dead Space’ is we’ve had a few offers to set it up. Once I started ['I Am Number Four'] and [producer] Wyck Godfrey and all those other guys got really busy on the ‘Twilight’ movies because they’re kicking butt over there, so we’re gonna get back and talk about it [once everyone's time frees up].

“We have a really good sort of storyline. It’s almost a prequel, sort of, to where the game picks up.” Prequel? Was the anime movie not a prequel? Have no clue anymore, though D.J. Caruso says it is an obstacle for him and his crew to come up with something that fits along with the game, saying furthermore: “It’s one of those things where the storytelling of it and trying to get into the prequel [is a challenge]… You have have the whole sort of brainwash-y/Scientology thing and ultimately the Necromorphs.”

Despite “sort of” having a good storyline, the director still needs writers, and is for now taking different pitches from different writers. “We’ve tried to crack the story a few different ways, so I know when we get back we’re going to get into it and I feel like we’ll have a screenplay in a few months. It’ll hopefully be ready to go.”

To be honest, to me the director sounds a little dodgy. It looks a little unstable but I suppose in time when there is an actual writer with a clearer view of the whole thing rather than the director looking like he’s jumping up and down on his bed going “AND LETS ADD DINOSAURS!!”, then someone like me can look at this in a more positive view. I heard the game was great, so do you think this could be a great movie? Let us know…
