The secret that I too use to work at Blockbuster? Tis no secret =P But I do very much agree with most of the stuff Blackbuster is saying that also similarly happened whilst my duration of working in the UK stores.

Firstly, UK and US have different policies and ways of doing things, but all in all the name in general is dying. When he talks about how Blockbuster converted into a Starbucks themed store, that is one of the most craziest things I’ve heard. The store I was at did not do that, but like the one he was at we crammed our place with aload of pointless crap rather than focusing on just trade. We ended up selling Digital photo frames (??), music albums, some other odd stuff that started making it look like Poundland/dollar store. We didn’t get books.

I actually liked working there, it got very sad though when they wouldn’t take me back when available for the holidays due to reduce hours and such. Thinking about it now though, the time we had to sign contracts to say we do not get double pay for working on special holiday moments was harsh to take, especially when no one booked me for the special holidays therefore just the main people would work the whole days just to gross the money in for themselves (I do not celebrate Christmas nor fussed about boxing day and easter and so on so I was always available, but nooooo). Since then though, Blockbuster to this day has been the only job I’ve had, since giving my CV to different places I’ve had one interview in 2 years, I didn’t get the job, they took the pretty girl with boobs. To be fair, she was pretty hot…but man it sucks with selfish bastards in the world…

Regards to getting robbed – Happened ALL THE TIME =| When we use to sell the alcohol and wine, random gypsy’s kept trying to steal – sometimes getting away, mostly not so much – as well as moronic customers, OH THE AMOUNT OF TRASHY LOOKING PEOPLE THAT KEPT COMING IN. One time, a day I wasn’t working but got told about, somebody came in asking for toffee flavoured popcorn. When we ran out and he was told, he flipped out, knocked the stand and racks of DVD’s over, spat at our manager, punched whatever was around….and then walked off with a salted bag of popcorn anyways =| It was one of the most ridiculous sounding stories ever.
Anyways, When the Wine went, it was the chocolates and coca colas, or ben & jerrys or anything stupid. we had okay security, but because employees working (I remember it was 2 people at night shift when it should have been 3) and scattered it was hard to occupy just anything. atleast with three employees it would have made sense especially on busy nights.

customers were annoying, our ones never complained about reasonable complaints it was always stupidity like Blu-Ray disc not working on regular DVD players when we clearly state these are Blu-Rays but oh they weren’t told at the desk when CLEARLY, they were but look down on us if we’re not taller. One time I had a customer complain that I gave them the wrong disc in a film, and she said it was me and complained at me towards the manager also saying they watched a disgusting film, like I gave them porn (it was two films conveniently with similar names, but the best part was…), turns out they meant another asian guy, who just so happened to work there, clearly looking however nothing like me because 1. He is Sikh I am Muslim and 2. He has facial hair I do not. used my account to make a quick exchange (which is normal, even the first manager I worked with did it, ALL THE TIME, especially when it was a competition to get record sales she cheated that way) and he gave them the wrong CD, simple mistake, but you don’t go WATCHING THE WRONG FILM, MAKE JUDGEMENT, AND THEN COME BACK ACCUSING THE WRONG GUY ANYWAYS.

All in all, Blockbusters in SOME parts are falling out of business…soon enough is fully dying. Be a shame to see it go but suppose it was just poor ‘behind-the scenes’ which every employee at the place I worked mentioned was going wrong.
