It is rare to see someone hit out at Lupe Fiasco other than his own fans who criticize certain points of him (the delays, the change, the idea etc.), but Lupe’s former producer and friend Prolyfic has gone in on the Chi-town rapper saying that he is “afraid of failure”.
Using the power of Twitter, Prolyfic went on a rampage accusing Lupe Fiasco of not making great hits, something that he refuses, hence why his current upcoming album, L.A.S.E.R.S, is being shelved for now. He questioned why Lupe went from being one of the most talked-about artists in Hip Hop to having his album delayed and not making many of the industry’s “hottest rapper” lists. This all comes just as the announcement of a petition to Atlantic Records releasing the album surfaced the net.

Strong words by the producer against the Chi-town rapper. A majority of what he says is right, whereas I’m not feeling some stuff he’s saying…
As I have mentioned before and as Prolyfic states; Lupe Fiasco was said to be a breath of fresh air in Hip Hop. He was the reason I got into Hip Hop – the material he had, his words, the flow, the beat, the themes he gave, they were amazing and a big change from the constant similarities of how rappers only talk about guns, money, shiny stuff, cars and how they have sex with 60 girls yet leave out the part they get some STD…Food & Liquor was an instant classic to listen to, and when The Cool came out that was another great album he made and his hype was built for fans that wanna hear great music. He provided that.
When he announced LupE.N.D. to be a three CD finale of his interesting legacy it was set to be something great I’m sure, then all of a sudden he scrapped the plans, went on to work on L.A.S.E.R.S., and a year and a half after Lupe himself says the album is done there is still no sign of its actual release. Is he really just struggling that much? What from even? And why the quiet moment? He released one Mixtape since anything which, was okay, not exactly like Street Smart but it was something nonetheless
One part I don’t get Prolyfic saying, is that Lupe Fiasco needs to start making hits. Does he mean hits, or “hits”? With the latter being selling out? Fiasco has made great hits, just cause it doesn’t fit the logic of the likes of Lil’ Wayne, Gucci Mane, or Drake – which the first two named are pathetic sellouts and the last one named has an ego the size of three blimps – should not undermined Lupe’s quality, tis not his fault people will listen to stupid things. I would rather listen to Lupe Fiasco than a fake rapper with pathetic hits like so. L.A.S.E.R.S itself already has ‘I’m Beamin’ which is a great track, ‘Shining Down’ just as brilliant. Problem is they are the only two songs we have heard, so by the time the album comes out half the fans won’t care anymore, a quarter will love it, and the other quarter will go “what?”. All F&L songs are amazing and can easily be played on the radio. The guy is a genius and Prolyfic so far is sounding like he really is hating for personal reasons
What I do agree on however is his logic of what Lupe Fiasco is being like with Leaks. Leaks are bound to happen to everyone, it’s a bitch when it does but life itself is a bitch. You can’t expect a rapper to fully think he’s gonna reach Platinum every time he makes something. People leak albums because people want something they wait for so long so desperately that there is no patience in the world. I never knew he canceled a Mixtape release, why even do that? Mixtapes are born to be leaked – you make them, you YOURSELF release them, and its like getting feedback from your fans giving them what to expect and see the reaction they give for the artists support. You just don’t cancel Mixtapes because that indeed does give the vibe an artist is afraid of failure. Then again…the word failure doesn’t exist in the world no more, people buy any sort of shit – Soulja Boy still lives on, example right there. The fact he didn’t make the MTV list – a list from a network which does not hardly play any music – is nothing to complain about when it does not mean anything, I mean in that year Jay-Z just made one album and got 1st, Eminem didn’t even make the list after his one album, just proves MTV is just rubbish.
But, an artist can do what he feels. End of the day they are the one who know whats going on. I am and always will be a fan of Lupe Fiasco. When a big movement happens like his, when an inspiration comes about it is hard to turn away, but at the same time when you’re passionate about an artist, and in general of true music, you don’t just want it to keep quiet after wanting to make something of yourself. In my opinion Lupe Fiasco needs to, and will do, come back to show how real music is done. His hobbies are the crazy funky things, things people won’t get at times especially in the world of Hip Hop, and Japanese Cartoon (his rock band) are not that bad, but Lupe is not a rapper which we should have to make a petition about, and that is the fault of the record label. Fans want what was F&L, FnF, Righteous Kung-Fu, real music which made so many heads turn. My theory: make music and ignore the shit talk on Illuminati and shit people as such. It shouldn’t matter about what direction to please fans with, for real fans will stick around putting faith, even when it does feel like the emcee from chi-town is staying silent for no apparent reason. It’s all good, just give some explanation how you’re keeping really…
An attitude that needs to be taken by every MC, producer, whoever in the world in general; just get up, do what you do best, let the real fans know who you are, keep them happy cause they keep you happy, and make something happen. Keep it real and keep it cool at the same time, enjoy and share your moment with the people who get inspired by the movement thats made and what we can possibly make. Prolyfic needs to watch what he says maybe, or keep his feelings in private and talk it with Lupe himself.
