For those that remember 300 being a great watch, will know the version based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel. Since the movie there has been rumours of sequels which, sounded stupid, but not until this recent announcement that Zack Snyder, who directed 300, will be writing the script for Frank Miller’s OTHER piece ‘Xerxes’, along with his co-writer Kurt Johnstad.
If you remember, Xerxes was the giant Persian ruler who self proclaimed himself as God and went to war with the Spartans. The movie has been dubbed neither a prequel nor a sequel, as it will seem that the intent is to see what happened to Themistocles and the Battle of Artemisium. Just so happens this is on the exact same three days as the Battle of Thermopylae, the basis of ’300′, What are the odds. So, a flip-side effect? Makes sense? Good…
Speaking to the LA Times, Zack spoke: We closed the writing deal on ‘Xerxes.’ We started writing about a week ago,” Snyder said. “So we’re doing it. It’s happening… I don’t have a directing deal in place but we are writing it, so call it intent.”
“This movie follows Themistocles and the Battle of Artemisium, which coincidentally happens on the exact same three days as the Battle of Thermopylae [which was the basis of '300'],” Snyder added. “This one starts off with a quick retelling of the why of the Persian wars. It starts off at the Battle of Marathon and then it goes back to Themistocles finding out that Persians are invading again. and off we go over to learn a little bit about why Xerxes is the way he is.”
