The popular title that is Street Fighter, has on numerous occasions been adapted into animated plus live action movies, most notably, this one:
Good times…”YOOVE LOSZHT YOR BALLZH!”…Whilst the movies have been however ignored, mauled, absolutely slaughtered by fans and critics, especially of the Chris Klein debacle “Legend Of Chun-Li” (Anime adapt of SF aside, except ‘Generations’ cause that was piss-poor), Capcom still hope to make more movies on the franchise.
Speaking with Gamerlive.tv, President of Capcom Christian Svenssion says: “There’s a book to be written there [regards to Chun-Li]. This is where I have to be careful. Let’s just say there were a lot of people with different ideas as to what was the best route to take with that movie.
A path was chosen, a result was had. I think there are some learnings internally that we’ve taken away from that experience.”
He doesn’t believe that the movies have damaged the franchise popularity of its games, furthermore stating: “As long as the games are strong, the fans will be there. Certainly, the other part of this is we do have actually very successful uses of Street Fighter IP in comics and merchandise like Snuggies and action figures. I’d look at the movies as an opportunity missed, rather than anything that’s damaged us.”
Yet you continue to make the movies knowing the results…though who knows where the results of future Street Fighter movies will lead to – perhaps it could look at the fan made film which hit the Youtube surface and looks pretty damn pleasing for the fans:
or, maybe it could go the whacky route and introduce Jackie Chan in the frame:
Whatever the possibilities (please the Jackie Chan one), let us know what you think
