Last Years MTV Hottest MC list left out Eminem and opted for the likes of Gucci, Lil Wayne, and Drake, with Jay-Z topping the list. Leaving a heck load of people officially branding the list as ‘nothing but a popularity contest’ and not a seeker of true talent (which was obviously, why are we taking MTV serious anymore?). Eminem kept quiet, not saying much and carried on making tracks.
But finally breaking his silence, the Grammy award-winning rapper spoke out, saying that he took his absence as a sign he needed to work harder.
Speaking to VIBE Magazine, he said: “That hottest MC list that I was left off, it was one of those things that I was glad that I am at where I’m at. I’m glad I’m in this place now, because a few years ago I would’ve let it bother me more than it did.
Em felt that he needed to do certain things to step his game up and do better for people to recognise him a bit more:
“I took it not as a slap in the face but more so like, ‘Maybe I’m not on that list for a reason. Maybe I’m not doing the things that I need to be doing. Maybe I need to look at myself and step it up.’
“I don’t know what I would have thought being in the mind state that I was in. I just felt like maybe I need to do better.”
Least he took a more calmer approach, cause if Jay-Z was allowed to be no.1 by only releasing Blueprint III and perform on MTV, Eminem deserved a spot on the list somewhere. but nonetheless, he’s shown how much he’s stepped up with Recovery and is obviously deemed this year on the list. doubt he’ll get the first spot (because of the Drake hype, just watch) but nonetheless his talents are endless and great to hear.
Let us know what you think – think Eminem can get top spot this year? Does it even matter to you anymore?
