Last night, I was talking to friend Swiff Epics on about this announced trailer thing thats surfaced online regarding a new Mortal Kombat…thing. Its been released as a trailer, but its 8 minutes long, and honestly to me looks like a fan made movie, but according to many, including MK creator Ed Boon, who released the trailer via his Twitter account, it isn’t fan made.
Check it out:
In an update: Actress Jeri Ryan, the actress portraying Sonya Blade in the video, has confirmed via Twitter that this is a short film created by a director to sell Warner Bros. on his Mortal Kombat pitch. “It’s not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film,” Ryan says on her Twitter page, adding ” I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB’s reaction to it was.” Thanks to Zimnick for pointing us towards Jeri’s updates!”
So, its possible this is just an example pitch to WB by the director to show what he can do regards to an MK movie. However, people latched onto this like the real thing, and claimed it as awesome and wanted more. Personally, it looked pretty cheesy and way off context. direction of photography was nice though, but it looked like merely a good attempt of a fan made film, like the street fighter one released awhile back.
I don’t really want this to be a movie? I just find it pointless with all these video games becoming movies, especially something like Street Fighter – what happened to that? They remade it with Chun Li story and that ended up being completely rubbish. The example here just showed pure cheese, I thought Scorpion was suppose to be an undead figure? Living in hell? Why did they pit him as a prisoner? WHY would he even be the main guy? what happened to Liu Kang? If anyone ever thinks to say “Oh they’re going for realism” – Like fuck they are, so Scorpion is a blind man that can see? Sub Zero is the only one that stays the same throughout everything? Johnny Cage dies against Baraka? Speaking of which: regards to Repltile and Baraka, in that little clip Jacks already knew their locations, their crimes, had evidence of such, YET DOES FUCK ALL?! Talk about the worst workforce ever.
It just played out really stupid, The games have followed the same trend, so why change it for a hopeful movie? Only time will tell what this clip is all about, knowing Warner Bros Studios, they will prolly cash in on this, as the hits on Youtube especially rise, and seemed to have gotten creator Ed Boon the thumbs up.
Let us know what you think? A good idea to make a new Mortal Kombat movie? Or is it looking good for you?
