REVIEW
It’s pretty easy to predict whether you’ll enjoy this film or not, if you liked Hangover you’ll like Part 2, it’s that simple. This film was built on the blueprint that made the first film such a hit, as everything from the sequence of events to the choice of music is the same!
The film revolves around Stu’s marriage to his lovely Thai bride Lauren (played by Jamie Chung) and Phil’s effort to regroup the wolfpack for an awesome stag party despite Stu’s reluctance. The guys manage to convince Stu to have a sensible stag party and even convince him to invite Alan by promising to avoid any similar mishaps to last time and they take Lauren’s brother Teddy along for the ride.
Fast forward to post-stag party and we find Alan, Stu and Phil waking up in a seedy hotel room with no recollection of the previous nights events. Stu has a replica Mike Tyson facial tattoo, Alan’s bald, Teddy’s missing but his finger is in a bowl of ice and there’s a monkey in the room. Making a more than welcomed return at this point is Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) who was invited to join the stag party by Alan and seemingly led the group to Bangkok! Before Mr Chow can tell the gang of Teddy’s whereabouts he takes an overdose of cocaine and falls flat on his face.
Cue a hilarious adventure into Bangkok as the guys come across drug dealers, monks, tattoo artists, cops, strippers and a surprise appearance by Paul Giamatti. To describe the events that lead them to discover Teddy’s whereabouts would be pointless as that is the sheer appeal of this film but what I will say is that the path of destruction they’ve left behind them this time is far worse (therefore funnier) than in the original film.
By no means is this a better film than the original and that’s simply down to the lack of originality here but that doesn’t present any hindrance, there are plenty of moments in this sequel to keep you happy and hey, if it ain’t broke why fix it… right?
VERDICT
Same old wolfpack, same old premise but a lot more mayhem!
Score: 8
