The Oscars: King’s Speech Was Heard

Night of the Oscars (apparently) the biggest night in all movie actor, actress, director, producer, studios, lights, sound, camera, script writers lives. It was a night for the team behind “The Kings Speech” to reign and remember, as it picked up the main awards for Best Film, Best Leading Actor, Original Screenplay, and Best Director. This goes to prove that one: The British provide the best in actors and directors after the numerous nominations and wins over the years (come on, its true, we’ve taken your Spider-Man and now your Superman too!), and two: Not everyone is up to date with social networking it seems…

However “The Social Network” did not leave empty-handed, instead picked three nods for Adapted Screenplay, Original Score and Film Editing. The only other movie which garnered the same number of awards as “The King’s Speech” was Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” which I am still in question as to why he was not at least nominated for Best Director. Nonetheless it picked up the awards for Cinematography, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.

Other wins include Natalie Portman once again claiming ‘the gold man’ for Best Leading Actress in her starring role of “Black Swan”. Surprisingly in the Supporting Actor/Actress awards (in which Mila Kunis was not nominated in which again – makes no sense) “The Fighter” was acknowledged and blessed with two stars being better than the main character himself (sorry Mark!), as Batman/Christian Bale picked up for Supporting Actor and Melissa Leo nabbed the Supporting Actress.

All in all it seemed like a good night, I did not watch it. I know that fellow writer Gary did along with his Koalition crew also placing bets here and there. We’ll hopefully get his overall opinion on the show itself in the comments below, in which you can also share your thoughts – you think the winners were well deserved? Think “Inception”, maybe “The Social Network” should have deserved it? Or do you not care?
