Rumours of this franchise will never stop until it starts filming, which judging from what director Christopher Nolan said two weeks back, they should be filming in ten weeks. I suppose then the rumours of who is set for the movie as well as who plays who can still be placed around, with now actress Marion Cotillard (Inception, Public Enemies) is the latest name to be attached to the Batman series, which according to a French newspaper, they’re saying ‘Oui’ to the news…
When the actress shortlist was revealed, it was said Christopher Nolan was looking for two female roles. It seemed forgot about the second role once Anne Hathaway was named to play Selina Kyle (Catwoman) whilst also mentioning Tom Hardy as Bane. Rumours still suggested for one more villain to appear, with Epic Network favourite Joseph Gordon-Levitt still in contention of apparently now being rumoured to have signed on for the role of playing Alberto Falcone, the son of Tom Wilkinson’s Carmine Falcone in “Batman Begins”.
Now Marion Cotillard’s name has been shoved in, to play the role of Ra’s Al Ghul’s daughter Talia Al Ghul. According to “Le Figario” they write: “Marion Cotillard will join the production this summer in Los Angeles, where she will share the bill with Anne Hathaway.
“The actress, who is expecting a child in the spring with Guillaume Canet, will be scarce this year. She’ll do a single film and her choice fell on Batman 3.”
Tali Al Ghul was rumoured long to be the main villain in the third movie until it was left in dust, so maybe this could be a for-certain thing. If that is the case, as well as Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s unconfirmed rumour, the two will play strong focuses of being sons and daughters as, in the comic book series, Selina Kyle (to be played by Hathaway) suspects Carmine Falcone of being her father. As such, the theme of children and familial legacy would theoretically offer a parallel to Bruce Wayne’s own struggle against the loss of his parents, thus leading him with a broken back against Bane, possibly…who knows. There is so much you can take in with this.
If also this is fact and confirmed, practically the main cast of “Inception”, with the exception of Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page (as technically well as Michael Caine who returns as Alfred), join back in the hands of Christopher Nolan and his masterful plan…sneaky.
I just cannot wait, more and more I get excited that this is happening and I do feel Marion Cotillard will make a great addition to the cast as well as of course JGL. Let us know your thoughts however – Talia Al Ghul right for the third villain? Marion Cotillard well suited?
