We all love free music, and it is (to us at Epic Network anyways) a pleasure to hear of rising artists doing their thing and running their own path to get themselves heard. It is no different with artist ‘Lerix’, who’s latest EP ‘New Heights’ was mentioned to me in my inbox a couple of days back.

Based in Brooklyn, New york, Lerix is a progressive rapper with the words lyrically strong to make himself a well deserved hip hop emcee. Original and the way Hip Hop in the modern times should sound, ‘New Heights’ establishes itself as a very well built EP which in my case has me intrigued to hear more. It is surprising to hear sounds from an independent artist such as Lerix who possesses as much talent plus calibre as of an artist signed to a record label, going to show just how far music stretches beyond what we see on our monitors.

‘New Heights’ will have you going through a story of struggle, triumph plus power gained from self respect/appreciation. From hearing track two “The Premier” I found myself bopping my head feeling the beat (produced by BK5), rhythm and flow – which speaking of has me not being able to help but think that there is a little inspiration/similarity of how Lupe Fiasco himself did, with a little hint of Wale. “Feel It” (once again produced by BK5) takes sample of Jackson Five’s “Can You Feel It” and adds on beats which smartly fit together and once again lyrics by Lerix go in hard.
He’s not alone in this EP, as other indie artists from the likes of Thirsty McGurk, Kamilah Gibson, Showbiz and Shane Eli join on lending their voices as well as talented producers such as Bravestarr plus Tureek.

Overall this is one EP plus one artist not to be left in dust and ignored, 2011 deserves to hear better music and Lerix can be in my opinion a silent help-in-hand with that.

A download for Lerix ‘New Heights’ EP on the Epic Network will be coming soon. In the meantime click on the album cover image for a direct link to Lerix – New Heights EP. Or, click here
