Does anyone remember this?
Well all that may as well be lost and forgotten as Soulja Boy felt like wearing the big boy pants in throwing a somewhat-insult towards the Chi-town emcee. So the only way you can respond to an idiot? Use his words against him and prove you still got it…
In the latest edition of XXL Mag, a feature of Soulja Boy was made with a full length interview in which Soulja Boy talks on his latest album reaching a more serious lyrical experimentation, his relationship with 50 Cent and so on…in one point of the article Soulja says: “I don’t want to be super-Lupe-Fiasco-lyrical and niggas don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about.”
“I want to be the best,” he continued. “I want to be recognized in that category where I’m nominated for Best Rapper with Jay-Z and Kanye and Wayne. I wanna get a Grammy. I want Best Rap Album of the Year… I’ve made millions of dollars off of doing my style, but, hey, I can rap, too.”
No Soulja Boy, you cannot rap, but I’ll tell you someone who can – Lupe Fiasco, who really gave food for thought to the young idiot only looking at shiny appraisals with a comeback track called “S.L.R”, the Super Lupe Rap. With props shown to the greats of Malcolm X and Cornell West, the song itself is a direct response to Soulja Boy’s comment that nobody wants to be “super-duper-lyrical”. If nobody wanted to be “super-duper-lyrical” then we would not have amazing simple tracks such as the one you are about to press play on below:
SLR (Super Lupe Rap) by Epic_Network
What makes a true artist is the fact they explain to you with a passion why their art matters, they won’t be the ones boasting themselves to the public about their financial status and/or number of albums to go Gold onwards. They make music, and they make you learn. There’s nothing pretentious about this, there is no attack towards Soulja, it is just simple poetry in-motion, and stating a fact that Lupe is showing; why would you not want your ‘art’ to hold a significant meaning? Leave a lasting memory on your fans, not a ‘stupid boy swag’.
So don’t be scared to take the Super Lu route, Top 5 Alive and I’ve only got two out. School you on your history, I’ll tell you what you bout, fight for all the right things and let the Huey New out. Pharrell, what these n***** talkin’ bout? Two man Big Pun, a one man Slaughterhouse, a two album Jay-Z, a one n**** Wu-Tang, a younger hungry Mos Def, a conscious rappin’ Lil Wayne”
And with that – let us know what you think in the comments below.
